Yeah, his male-female dynamics suck. Men are stupid when it comes to women, and women are scheming and manipulative when it comes to men, we get it already!

But the thing is, when it's good it's really good.

Damn, I am sounding addicted.

Don't do it Matt! Don't! It's evil! It will suck you down into its' insidiously malicious vortex of DOOOOOOOM!

I made it to the end of book 5 as well, and got so disgusted with the lack of decently-written characters and 2D mentality I gave it up. Not to mention that guy so cannot write female characters. And the first book was practically a rip-off of LOTR. And the languages weren't really done properly... OK I'll shutup now :)

You too can kick the habit, and become WOT-free! We believe in you! ... or something :P

Yeah, I've been told it goes downhill. I was pretty unimpressed with the ending of "Fires of Heaven," but I figure I'm nearly halfway now…

Assuming that you're reading from the book 1 you're about at the point when the "wheels fall off" the WoT. (in my not so humble opinion)

"The Fires of Heaven" was good read but now waiting to read book 11 I'm just trying to get to the end of the series (started reading back in 1992, I think).

My main problem is that you get too many minor characters and the time scale of each book compresses as it goes on - from 1-2 years in "Eye of the World" through to a day or so in one volume.

In the words of more than one character sniff!

Good concept, just not brought to climax or closure in a compentent manner.

Having said that, I enjoyed the standalone prequel "New Spring" that I have on its own and part of the good fantasy anthology "Legends".

BTW- found a helpful summary of the first 10 books at www.dragonmount.com to bring me back up to speed for #11.
