Heavier Things (It’s a review)
The other day I bought John Mayer’s Heavier Things. And honestly, the album artwork by itself is worth the price (well, the $7 I got it for anyway).

The album booklet is awesome. It has a number of charts, including icons to tell you what to expect from each song (‘Advice,’ ‘Lovesick,’ ‘Ironic,’ ‘Guitar Solo’…), BPM as a chart, filesize(!), writing locations (one song was written in New Zealand even) and “suggested target areas (what part of your body to listen to the song with, I guess). (Excuse the shonky pictures; I have no scanner, and digital cameras are less than optimum for flat bits of shiny paper.)

As for the music, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect—I think I was expecting pop with a little cool to it. Well, it turns out to be a slightly smoother version of Dave Matthews. Something like that. Anyway, it has a cool groove to it, and there’s a pretty excellent amount of variety too. I’m quite impressed. It *is* quite pop, but it’s kinda fringe-pop or something, and it’s still real good musically.
John Mayer as a person I’m still trying to understand. He’s publicly said a number of time that he hates pop-stars; either he thinks he’s a rockstar, or he thinks he’s Dave Matthews.
